A Master's Request - Don't Cry for Me Children of Sikh Dharma
In the autumn of 1999, during one of Yogi Bhajan's meditation classes in Española, he requested that this song be written. At that time, another beautiful poem entitled Don’t Cry For Me Sikh Dharma had been composed & put to the music of Don’t Cry for Me Argentina by Hari Bhajan Kaur. One evening, while this song was being played, Yogi Bhajan requested that an additional song (this one) be composed. He specifically requested that it include the line “Don’t cry for me children of Sikh Dharma” & that it be written in the past tense as if he had already passed. He asked that the song celebrate his life, not mourn his death. His intention was that we be comforted, uplifted & joyful with his passing & that his life, our mission & our future be celebrated. When w played the song for him, his words were “It’s perfect. Don’t change a thing”. It is with humility & immense gratitude to the life of the Siri Singh Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogiji (Yogi Bhajan) that we present this song & mantras.
Humbly, Dev Suroop Kaur
